On Tuesday 84 ladies played 2 Person Multiple Stableford on a composite course. The winners were Val Stark and Bette Bowes 73 points, runners up Gayle Blakey and Joan Burns 72 points. Balls went to 59 points on a countback. Nearest the pins Betty Thompson, Sheila Walsh, Val Stark and Kerry Conrad.
The Men played Stableford on a composite course on Wednesday with 128 players taking part. The winners were A Grade Jason Kerr 35 points, B Grade Marc Rettalack 43 points, C Grade Lindsay Gilbee 36 points, D Grade Ian Cameron 43 points, balls to 32. Nearest the pins Stephen Conrick and Malcolm Dickson.
Saturdays Stableford Medley had 65 men and 51 ladies taking part. The winners were Men A Grade Terry Olsen 36 points, B Grade Russell Jappe 40 points, C Grade Wednesdays Winner Ian Cameron 42 points.
Ladies A Grade Petra Wilmot 35 points runner up Marie Mc Lennan 34 points, B Grade Betty Edwards 36 points runner up Bette Bowes 34 points, C Grade Margaret Harford 32 points on a countback from Lois Davidson. Nearest the pins Petra Wilmot and Jeff Innes.
On Sunday the Club held its Annual Captains V’s Presidents Stableford Medley Day with 74 men and 28 ladies taking part with a Barbecue after golf. After last years debacle the Captains Team redeemed themselves with a victory 1550 points to the Presidents Team 1464 points.
The individual winners were Ladies A Grade Sue Davies 35points, B Grade Barbara McCormack 35 points. Men A Grade Terry Stokes 36 points, B Grade Richard Rolfe 38 points on a countback from Dave Williams, C Grade Bill Freestone 37 points on a countback from Bill Tenderson. Nearest the pins Dawn Nioa and Gerald Pennefather.
Stuart Appleby Murray River Junior Masters
Records go at Junior Golf Tournament
Last Sunday’s final 18 holes at Tocumwal was a fitting climax to an outstanding Stuart Appleby Murray River Junior Masters.
A tournament record field of 126 players teed it up over four days with two rounds each at Cobram Barooga and at Tocumwal.
Sunny warm weather prevailed for the first three rounds but Sunday saw the arrival of cooler temperatures and persistent rain.
The Boy’s event was set for a tight finish with Lucas Herbert from Commonwealth on 215 holding a 2 shot advantage from cross city rival James Bannan.
The Rosanna golfer in turn held a 1 shot buffer from The Heritage Golf Club’s D. J. loypur.
With all three in the final group it was an absorbing contest.
Herbert and Bannan finished tied at the end of the regulation 72 holes.
In the ensuing play-off the nuggetty Bannan was able to close out the match.
After a four under par round on Saturday Kingswood’s Bianca Ling started the final 18 holes with a seemingly unassailable ten shot lead over Reanna Matthews the defending champion from Commonwealth.
A solid no fuss 75 gave the smooth swinging Ling a final score of 292 which equalled Matthews’ tournament record and a comfortable victory.
Ethan Keane won the Boy’s handicap event.
The twelve year old from Woolooware Golf Club in Sydney’s southern suburbs playing off a handicap of 23 carded a record nett score of 260.
Yarra Yarra’s fourteen year old Cheerie Tan off a handicap 29 took out the Girl’s handicap section with a stunning nett score of 253.
Ryan Kowal from Churchill Park entered his name in the record books with a nett 59 during the second round.
The young 24 handicapper joined an exclusive club by reaching golf’s “Holy Grail” – breaking 60.
